Dave Liebman at Impulse! Nights
Getting a chance to sit down with a legend of both the saxophone and jazz alike is not something to be taken lightly. Luckily, during the Impulse! Nights series celebrating the 50th anniversary of Impulse! Records, The Revivalist got to do just that. With a vast catalog ranging from the late ’60s into today, Dave Liebman has made a name for himself through hard work, respect, and talent throughout the music industry. Between gigs with Miles Davis (On the Corner, Dark Magus, and Get Up with It), Elvin Jones, John Scofield and John McLaughlin among many others, including his own groups, Liebman defined a sound unique to his own stylings whether he was following the changes with Miles during their time together, experimenting with fusion groups, or creating the nearly 300 original compositions of his that have been recorded.
It is intriguing to see the generations of influence being passed down from the likes of Trane to Dave Liebman, and from Dave Liebman to his students. Take the few minutes to hear what he has to say about his experiences and what that means for us in the music realm today.
